An Acting school with a difference

Theatrelab is a contemporary theater group which is a class apart from the rest of the acting schools. They have been creating a niche for themselves in training and on theatre ideology from 2005. They are situated in K.K.Nagar. The founder and director of this institution is Mr. Ch.Jayrao. His ideology towards acting and teaching acting is very different from other acting institutions.

He believes that when a person is a good human being then he/she can be a good actor and when he/she is a good actor they can choose good stories for movie and that movie will be a good quality movie. When he says good quality movies that means it will have some kind of social message to it. He believes that every human being born in this world has a social responsibility and they must perform their duty. He also says if we try we can bring our cinema’s to world standard. We are all created the same way it,  is just the way we put our ability to use. He has been doing a lot of social work as well as by giving acting training for the under privileged children, physically challenged and even mentally challenged. He also helps is the uplifting of a lot of lost dance forms such as Devarattam and Thapattam, ect; he believes our Indian culture has lot to teach us but in this fast paced world nobody has the time to appreciate it. 

Anyone can become an actor as William Shakespeare told once “the world is a stage and we are all actors in it”. He says we are all acting the roles  that we are given as son, daughter, sister, brother, wife, husband, father, mother ect; the Moto in T.L is – Bringing out the real actor in you.  We do all these characters very well but when it comes to act in front of the camera we shy away. This is just because of all the inhibitions that a person cultivates as they grow up.

There are two main factors that an individual needs to achieve success in life - Faith and Confidents. The simple definition for it is ‘I will achieve’ and ‘I can achieve’ respectively.

In Theatrelab there are a lot of different training courses offered which are:
Actor preparatory program / Actor training
Creative learning program for schools and colleges
Retreat theater for the mentally and physically challenged
Life theater for corporate

All the courses offered have a very psychological approach to it. T.L uses Method acting and Stanislavski's system as a way of teaching. T.L also helps in Identifying the Individual Identity of the individual which a lot of youth these days are confused about.

T.L also stages Theater Plays with the students as a showcase. On the 21st of November T.L showcased the preview of their theatrical play. Every year T.L stages two or three plays. In 2010 March T.L will be staging three theatrical plays - Perriyar – Vikom , Sahapayanigal and Anna Durai’s – Varavu Selavu. The showcase was held in their premises and had staged one or two scenes from each play.

Thiru. Veli Rangarajan a well known theater critic and director and one of the trustees of T.L, Thiru. Ramu from Tamil Nadu Murpoke Sangam, Thiru. Ayya Samy the author of the book Vikom was present at the event. The event was full of life as soon as the play started. All the three plays are directed by Mr. Jayrao himself. The audience was taken back to another dimension, It was so real. All the performers in the play are students of T.L and it was designed and staged very well. Every scene had a moral to it and a social message. One thing all the three plays are very profound plays which will make us think. Each character in the play has a social responsibility to evoke, which will make the audience think. When the preview is so good then the full play must be superb let’s just hope March comes fast.
